About Coach

I grew up in Mt. Morris where I played Soccer, Basketball, and Baseball. I never excelled at any sport, but enjoyed the opportunities to compete and hang out with my friends. After high school I went to the University of Rochester where I earned my degree in mathematics. I have my Master’s in Math Education along with certifications in School Administration and School Business. I currently work as the Director of BOCES 4 Science. Throughout my life, my health has been less than stellar. Before COVID, I weighed in at well over 300 pounds. I believed that I wouldn’t be around long enough to see my daughter, Katie, fully grow up and experience all life has to offer. I decided that my health was more important than the food I enjoyed. I started focusing on my eating and started running. I quickly dropped 50 pounds. I also started watching videos of old CrossFit games and thought it must be so much fun. Not knowing anything, I started to try some movements in my garage. In 2021, the JCC opened up from COVID and I started going back – about a week or so later, Brickyard had a recruitment event and my wife and I got to meet some of the coaches. We signed up that day – and I have been coming to Brickyard about 5-6 days a week ever since. During this time I dropped another 60 pounds – for a total of over 110 pounds – and found my stamina, strength, flexibility, and joy of working out all skyrocketed.

Turning Point

Motivation & Passion

I am relatively new to CrossFit – having only started it seriously in 2021 – and started coaching in 2023. I know what it feels like to start working out and feeling overwhelmed and like you don’t belong with everybody else that has been doing CrossFit forever. I also know what it’s like to challenge yourself and see growth over time – with the help of others pushing you to be a bit better each class. My motivation is to ensure that each person that comes into class has fun, works hard, and feels they accomplished something (because everybody does). New members often worry about their times or how much they struggle with movements – I tell them that, no matter what happens, you beat 99.5% of the world today – and you have become a bit more fit by being here. Personally, I want to grow as a coach and learn from those who coached me – and share my knowledge and passion for CrossFit with others, especially those new to our sport.
